Plan of Action

This is a PEOPLE POWERED MOVEMENT!

Through our combined little efforts,  we have the POWER to catalyze BIG Change.

ARE YOU WITH US?

CITY ROAD AND PARKS HERBICIDE SPRAYING

1. WE CONTINUE to exert public pressure on authorities to implement an IMMEDIATE moratorium on spraying of toxic herbicides on roads in our communities and in our parks and recreation areas until such time as the City implements non-toxic weed management program.

(a) Firstly, we do so by GROWING the Poison-free Peninsula membership base: membership options (BOTH FREE):-

  • Non-voting member – if you are not interested in voting but wish to be a member (all persons on the Poison-free Peninsula Whatsapp Notifications Only Group as from 15 October 2025 are automatically deemed ‘non-voting’ members unless if you specifically inform us you choose not to be a member. If you leave the whatsapp group, you need to inform us if you wish to remain on our member database as a non-voting member. If you wish to upgrade your membership to a ‘voting’ membership, drop us an email requesting this to: poisonfreepeninsula@proton.me;

  • Voting member – for those who want to have a vote in decisions made at Annual General Meetings. To apply to become a voting member, send an email to poisonfreepeninsula@proton.me requesting this.

(b) Inspire active citizenry through initiating / encouraging various actions to work towards achieving No. 1.

(c) Exploring legal remedies and seeking out legal assistance in achieving No. 1.

(d) POISON-FREE PLANT AND SEED SWOP - Participating in local community markets to: sign up new members, raise awareness and network (our stand will offer a Poison- free plant and seed swop – strictly only pure seeds (not treated or coated with any synthetic substances) from each other’s locally saved & shared seed, organically cultivated seedlings and plants from non-treated/coated seeds and seeds from local organic heirloom suppliers).

POISON-FREE PEOPLE

#ichoosenature - By becoming a member of Poison-free Peninsula (voting or non-voting) it means:

(i) You stand for and strive towards a Cape Peninsula free from toxic chemical pollution;

(ii) In your own personal and work life, you choose non-toxic alternatives that: (a) DO NOT leave behind a dirty legacy of destroying or degrading the Cape Peninsula’s flora, fauna, living waters, soil and air and (b) also DO NOT put human health and wellbeing at risk.”

PFP will share news and resources (received from various supporting organisations) that will assist in empowering its members in:

  • Expanding upon their poison-free lifestyle;

  • Encouraging others to do the same, including encouraging others to join our movement;

ADDITIONAL INITIATIVES

  • #NATUREKNOWS campaign (sharing tips) – We know that through your connection to nature you have learned so much about plants people call ‘weeds’ and about insects and creatures people call ‘pests’…. You discovered things not in a classroom and not from A.I. but directly from the intelligence of Nature outside.  We want to hear about your real-life experiences to share them with other members for inspiration and to assist with empowerment for a Poison-free lifestyle.

  • "mini" ACTIONS - On our whatsapp announcements group we provide our members with the opportunity to participate in our "mini" actions which are easy and fun ways in which to support our objectives, helping to raise awareness and being part of inspiring the change we want to see in the world.
  • #IAMNATURE campaign – We have a vision of making a large Earth shaped collage of portraits of Cape Peninsula residents who are PFP members, as an art installation to celebrate and applaud the active and inspirational Poison-free Peninsula community. (Location where this will be installed will be announced in due course)

  • POISON-FREE PENINSULA "EXPRESS YOURSELF!" EVENTS –  We have a vision of holding an event once a year to celebrate the creativity channeled through us, each in our own unique ways.  We will call on all spoken word artists, creatives, poets, musicians, artistic performers, dancers to join us in letting loose on stage at a location to be decided on in the Cape Peninsula. We know how important self-expression is in this difficult time and this will be a welcoming space to do so.  This event will help inspire hope, amaze and strengthen community while facilitating bodies and minds to become poison-free through release of what needs to be expressed.

  • NOTE ABOUT FUNDRAISING: Poison-free Peninsula is NOT centered around asking for funding from civil society.All our operational costs (for example market stand fees, legal fees, disc costs, website hosting costs, etc) will be covered by company/orgs sponsorships offered to us. Our exec board works on a 100% voluntary basis. The only time when we might receive renumeration is if one of us provide a specific personal service to other companies/orgs, such as speaking at an event, creating specific material for such companies/orgs, etc (to be preapproved by our board).
